Peoplesdirt bites the dust

A couple of weeks ago, I blogged about the site peoplesdirt—a site designed specifically to amplify rumors, slander, and negative comments  between high school students-- and its lack of any redeeming social value.

The Washington Post yesterday reported that the site has been shut down.  Maryland’s Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler used some creative pressure with advertisers and the website's hosting service to speed up the site's demise.

In the article,  Sue Kanter, co-president of  Walt Whitman High School's PTSA  put it best, "We felt that it was vile, offensive, hateful and a very poor use of the Internet's possibilities." 

Couldn’t agree more.
