If your email or social networking account has been compromised:
- Warn everyone in your contact list they may receive spam message looking like it comes from your account. Warn your friends and contacts not to open it or click on any links in those emails and to be careful about the potential for malware.
- Check all other online accounts to ensure that you can still access them and change those passwords ASAP.
- Attempt to regain access to the account and reset the password. If the password was weak, assume it was guessed. If password was strong, then it may have been stolen from somewhere else, such as a keylogger, so you will need to address that. Reset the passwords from a secure machine.
