LIGATT Security International is pleased to invite you to participate in our complimentary series of Cyber Security Awareness Webcasts. October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM). NCSAM focuses on raising awareness about the importance of computer security and educating users about practices and the technologies they can use to protect themselves online. The objective is to improve the state of computer security for individual users, their information networks and our nation as a whole.

Beginning Tuesday, October 6, 2009, LIGATT Security International and CEO, Gregory Evans will host live interactive webcasts weekly on Tuesdays in observance of National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The first interactive webcast set to begin at 2:00 PM EST, entitled "Identity Theft: Don't Let Your Life Become a Crime Scene", features Gregory Evans, discussing cyber security awareness as it pertains to identity theft. The webcast is the first of four series, which will continually run each month through the end of the year.

In addition to identity theft, webcast participants can look forward to discussing computer hacking (October 13th), email phishing and online scams (October 20th), and cyber bullying (October 27th). Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and convey real life scenarios, while receiving superior cyber security expert advice and suggestions in return from Evans.

Participants will receive a call-in telephone number and access pin to join the live webcast. The telephone number and access pin will be emailed to each participant six hours prior to the start of each webcast.

We look forward to you joining us Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 2:00 PM EST as we present "Identity Theft: Don't Let Your Life Become a Crime Scene." For further information and questions regarding the webcast please email us at pr@ligatt.com.

The Sixth Annual National Cyber Security Awareness Month is being celebrated during October 2009 as a collective effort among the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center , the National Cyber Security Division , the National Cyber Security Alliance , and the National Association of State Chief Information Officers to raise cyber security awareness nationwide and empower citizens, businesses, government and schools to improve their cyber security preparedness and help promote a safe Internet experience.

This year's theme focuses on "our shared responsibility" we all have to address cybersecurity. In this digital age, we are all connected; the actions of one can impact many. Thus, it is essential that each of us understands our important role in securing cyberspace.

This webcast will address strategies on how to promote cyber security awareness at all levels - including government, businesses and academia - with specific advice about how you can be actively involved to help facilitate a safe Internet experience. This webcast is a must-attend for anyone who wants to enhance computer security education and awareness throughout their organizations and learn about best practices from some of the nation's leading cyber security organizations.

    Abstract:
Cybersecurity is a broad and multi-faceted field. Many people and organizations see individual facets. Cybersecurity leaders within the Department of Homeland Security must be cognizant of many. The DHS Office of Policy, which looks across organizational boundaries, helps to provide them this view. Its role is to help harmonize efforts across component missions, to think broadly and long-term.

Mr. Cutts will talk about that role, discussing a range of cybersecurity policy issues he has dealt with since joining DHS in March of last year.
These include supporting the national cyber initiative, developing cybersecurity strategies, advancing the understanding of national cyber risk, clarifying roles and missions, and helping operational efforts mature.

    Bio:
Mr. Cutts joined the Department of Homeland Security in March 2008, working within the Office of Policy as Director for Cyber Security.

Prior to joining DHS, he directed the Cyber Conflict Research Institute at Norwich University Applied Research Institutes. While there, he organized a national research consortium in the field of cyber conflict to perform related research for industry and government, developed Cabinet-level exercises for the Department of Homeland Security, and worked with crisis managers in the finance sector to develop a distributed, scenario-based, computer simulation of securities transactions. While at Norwich University he consulted for the Japanese Cabinet Ministry on cyber threats. He was also on the board of the Cyber Conflict Studies Association, a non-profit entity dedicated to broadening national intellectual capacity in the field of cyber conflict.

From 2002-2004 he was a research program manager at the Institute for Security Technology Studies at Dartmouth College.
He was in the private sector from 1995 to 2002, where he became Vice President for Information Technology at a high-tech engineering services firm based in Connecticut. Before that, he served as a Naval Intelligence Officer for nine years.

The Cloud Security Alliance will define Cloud Computing and explore the different flavors from Infrastructure-as-a-Service to Software-as-a-Service. This will be followed by an experts panel discussing legal & regulatory issues, cloud interoperability & application portability, cloud storage & management and approaches to implementation of cloud.
Session 1: Cloud Security Alliance-Defining Cloud Computing

Dov Yoran will provide an introduction to the Cloud Security Alliance and updates to current research activities.

James Tiller will provide a framework for the day by defining cloud computing, its attributes and commonly existing models (SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS).

Session 2: Panel I Discussion - Cloud: Legal & Regulatory issues

Data security, integrity, identity management, access controls, and eDiscovery are regulatory challenges that must continue to be addressed in a cloud environment. Federal and state laws concerning the integrity and permanence of both personal and corporate financial data are quite strict. Potential cloud users with sensitive IP, personal information or international data must confront compliance hurdles before considering such offerings. How does one manage and contractually transfer these risks? Our panel will discuss both the familiar and lesser-known regulatory obligations that Cloud users must consider before leveraging the cloud. Take away from this session practical pointers on managing legal risk as your CIO and CFO press for movement toward the Cloud.

Session 3: Panel II Discussion - Approaches to implementing cloud solutions

Learn from leading industry executives and enterprise security decision makers on their perspective to implementing cloud computing solutions. What steps have they taken to protect their organization's data and infrastructure? How have they prioritized which cloud services to take advantage of? What are some of their success stories and lessons learned? Learn this and more during the upcoming ISSA session on cloud computing.

There are risks inherent in all new technology. Sometimes these risks get blown out of all proportion in comparison to the advantages these new technologies can offer. Rather than letting our worse fears keep us from exploiting these new technologies for the advantages they offer, what steps should IT leaders take to balance their use against their risks, to deliver these new technologies and the value they provide.

A job applicant searches the web for information on the person who has called her in for an interview; at the same time the interviewer pulls up the applicant's Facebook page. Do personal searches of this kind violate the ethics of online behavior? Do they blur the line between one's public and private lives? Or are they simply a legitimate-and helpful way to enrich a job-related conversation?

Join the Dartmouth community for a discussion of these and other ethical issues wrought by the digital era. "Over-Exposure in the Digital World" a panel discussion hosted jointly by Institute for Security, Technology, and Society (ISTS) and the Institute for Information Infrastructure Protection (I3P) in recognition of Cyber Security Awareness Month will explore a range of topics related to the separation of our private and public selves online, addressing such vexing questions as: Does an employer have the right to monitor and control its employees' online activities? Does anonymity alter a person's online behavior and is that OK? Should any information posted on the Internet be considered private? Do these questions suggest a paradigm shift in human interaction unique to the cyber realm or have we faced similar questions from technologies in the past?

Please join us on October 22 at 4pm in Haldeman 041.

The panel-moderated by Denise Anthony, Chair of the Department of Sociology and Research Director of ISTS-will feature:

    - Hans Brechbuhl, Adjunct Associate Professor of Business Administration at Tuck
    - James Moor, Daniel P. Stone Professor in Intellectual and Moral Philosophy
    - Charles Palmer, Chief Technical Officer of Security and Privacy at IBM and strategic advisor to the I3P
