WASHINGTON, D.C. – A short video was released today as part of National Cyber Security Awareness Month (NCSAM) to illustrate how the financial services sector is prepared to respond to a significant cyber event. The Financial Sector Cyber Security Video takes the audience through a simulated cyberattack from initial compromise to incident response.

“Ultimately, we want to show a behind-the-scenes look at how our financial institutions, in partnership with public and private sectors, use established incident response protocols and business continuity planning to stop a potential cyber-attack,” said Rich Baich, chief information security officer, Wells Fargo.

The video, produced Maestro Filmworks, highlights a hypothetical cyberattack occurring through phishing. After hackers enter a financial institution’s network, they begin to probe for weaknesses and exploit them. The security operations team discovers the breach, and the incident response teams collaborate ‒ across sectors ‒ to quickly stop the attack and bring the attackers to justice.

“Several agencies helped create this video to ensure we captured the essence of what a real cyberattack looks like. The video is a great tool in helping educate both policy makers and consumers about how the sector works to combat cyber risk as well as sharing valuable resources to help avoid becoming a victim of phishing attacks,” said Baich.

The video is being shared across the industry including financial institutions, government agencies and through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
