Why it matters

Throughout this campaign, you’ll see a “Then & Now” theme. Back then, if someone broke into your home, you could see the damage. Now, cybercrime often happens invisibly. Malware can slip into your computer without a sound or sign. You might not even know anything’s wrong until months – or even years – later, when your money or personal information has already been stolen.

Unfortunately, older adults are often targets. The FBI reports that Americans over the age of 60 are the most frequently targeted group... and they lose the most money. In just one year, nearly $5 billion was reported lost to online scams. And experts agree that the real number is likely even higher due to underreporting. 

That’s where we come in. No scare tactics. No confusing tech talk. Just clear, straightforward advice to help seniors:

• Create superstrong passwords

• Spot common scams before they fool you

• Keep your devices up-to-date and protected

The Then & Now workbook is the first of its kind - we noticed a void in the cybersecurity awareness and education space that left our seniors behind. Then & Now is the only curriculum specifically designed for older adults, which includes helpful tips, real-world examples, and simple activities to practice what they’ve learned. They can go at their own pace, skip around, or come back to any section as many times as they like.

You don’t need to be a computer whiz to be safe online. With a bit of guidance and a few good habits, older adults will have the confidence to enjoy the internet with more peace of mind.
